The Non-Conformist

We all have had a back seat driver who loves to shift gears from right there. We sometimes are that person too. More often than not, it is so easy to dictate instructions, share a recipe or give well meaning advice. It is very difficult though to get down and dirty and show someone how it is done.

Think about it. You are heading to the forties but have just recently celebrated your 35th birthday. You haven’t made out in ages but your sex life is all over your social networking sites. Your kids don’t do that well in school but you have straight A’s is publicizing their achievements. You have no clue what’s happening in your backyard, but your FB albums have exotic pictures of your escapades. We live in a time where the advertising matters big time, forget the quality of the product…..must be made in China anyway.

Someone once taught me to be a non conformist. He said it kept people guessing. Over the years I have realized, tell people the truth and they are still guessing. And I have come to enjoy it.

Someone asked me the other day, “So you enjoying the party?”

I said “Not really, I am content in my company.” She had nothing to say.

Another one time someone asked me “So you planning on another baby.”

I retorted, “Would love to, but my neighbours aren’t that helpful.” No questions post that.

I remember when I was dating my husband, my then boss and we bunked work one Valentine’s day. Next day the grape vine was abuzz. Since they obviously couldn’t ask the boss, the girls picked the wrong person.

“So, you and the big guy missing at work eh?”

“We were having sex on his terrace. We sold tickets for the show. You didn’t come?” I can safely add the red faced girl nevercrossed my path ever again.

See, it really is pretty darn simple to say it as it is. Think about it, you don’t need to keep a database of ‘who said to whom, what and where’. Irrespective, a whole lotta things can go wrong and they should…..else perfection can be quite boring. Who wants to live in a fairyland amongst cotton candy clouds? At some point being the devil is quite an interesting perspective. Yes, I’ll be headed for confession this Sunday!

Though I have always been blunt, I have come to that stage in life where I don’t mind over people who don’t matter. I say what the devil I want and get away with it. Thankfully that saves me from pessimistic pile-ons and ever tearful mother of sorrows. This is my life and I want sunshine. If it rains, I ain’t taking you under my umbrella.

And in being the way I am, I have a handful of people who know and treasure me for who I am. They wouldn’t trade a thing about me just as I wouldn’t about them. My life is not overcrowded and I make time for those who are special. It’s a fair give and take. Y’all know who you are and I am grateful that you are in my life. I couldn’t imagine it any other way.

And for the rest of you, …………………….!

hehe You did all that? Marvelous. I also have a sharp tongue and sometimes the tongue-in-cheek humor is wasted on certain people. I have also realized that there is no point fretting over what everyone else thinks about me. It is my life if you have a problem with that buzz off. Glad to have connected with you :).

Some pretty good advice. I am just trying to imagine the person’s face after hearing about your so called terrace escapades. 😀

People can be pain if we allow them to.

well written article. Very rarely people think differently. People love to go in the wave. I agree with you totally. Many times we won’t know what is happening in our backyard, but bothered over what is happening to the friends over network. Less commitment!! Earlier, I had written an article in my blog about a family (mother and son)who committed suicide in their Bangalore home because they suffered of loneliness!

Ha ha I can totally imagine you telling the person about you having sex and the other person turning a deep shade of beetroot red …or was it purple Vini ? From now on , I will keep reading this post everyday , so that when I am confronted by the devils , I can retort and have the satisfaction of seeing them squirm in their pants :)) Hugs to you 🙂

Sri, if they aren’t embarrassed to ask, I ain’t gonna shy away from telling. And trust me, give it back and they back off.
