Third time’s the Charm- The Black Dog Chronicles

Have you ever baked a cake? Well, if you have, you’d know that in order for the baking powder to mix evenly across the flour, you have to sieve it thrice. Yes, all of mum’s instructions during the Christmas sweet making sessions stayed back, somewhere inside my head.

Why three times I wonder? Come to think of it, all awards and rewards stop at, you guessed it, top THREE. Someone once told me, you can’t recollect more than three things at once. Troubles come knocking in trios too, apparently. Warnings also cease in termination after three repeated offences. Twins are good, triplets are even better. The Holy Trinity is revered the world over. And don’t we always work for triple benefits of the body, mind and soul? And in more recent times 3G changed the way we use our phones.

Fun facts with the number three don’t stop there. We live in three parts of time, our entire life –the past, the present and the future. And this we do on earth which is the third planet from the sun. And we see this life in three prime colours, red, green and blue. Somehow when you do things, it falls in place the third time. That is a popular folklore. Not that I am going to stand witness to it, but it surely is something to mull over.

So when I heard that Black Dog Triple Gold Reserve is the only blended Scotch that is produced involving a triple maturation process, I had to find out more. I mean, surely, it was more than sieving it thrice. And this is what I found out, which will delight Whisky lovers the world over.

The triple maturation process involves two distinct whiskies, the Grain and the Malt varieties which are matured separately in American Bourbon Casks.  These two, on maturation are then blended together and matured further in Oloroso Sherry Butts. This additional period of time gives the blend a distinctive flavour and a delicate finish. A premium taste that is endorsed by those who cherish the finer things in life. No wonder then, Triple Gold Reserve is the name rightly coined for this exceptional blend. And as per recent consumer research findings, it has been appreciated and accepted as a parallel to any 12 Y.O blended scotch.

So the triple plays a significant part. It takes two distinct and matured whole products and blends them to form an unmistakable third. A marriage of sorts, where two become three and thereby a family, while the world waits.

Do you have any number three stories?
